Elliot and I have been having the same conversation for the past several days:
Elliot: Mama!
Me: Yes Elliot?
E: Please Mama, pleeease!
Me: Please what, Elliot?
E: I wants some moneys please.
Me: Money? What do you want money for? What are you going to buy?
E: I's buy peaches!
And being a little California boy, he can probably buy peaches at this time of year.
Do you think he really understands anything about money, or does he just know how this dialogue goes? I can't believe that a two-year-old, even Elliot, could understand the concept.
He knows, on some level, that one can exchange money for stuff (specifically, bagels, which is what we were buying together most recently). Beyond that, though, I have no idea how much he really understands.
