It's a...

We had our level 2 ultrasound this afternoon. The baby was very cooperative and made it easy to tell that we're having a girl! She was quite active and in good health, and the doctor told us her anatomy looked fine.

Congratulations, Jen and Gary. Guess that'll balance out the household. But there goes the theory of saving hand me downs from Elliot!

Posted by: Pete at December 29, 2006 07:14 AM

Well, it will expand your experience. I don't know if they fight more when they are of the same sex or when different. My own experience is of having two brothers and two daughters, so if you want more info, ask Diana. Love. R

Of course she can use hand-me-downs! Pete may not have seen what girls wear to school. Now, when I was a girl, we only wore pants to school on Dress-Down Day, a concept incomprehensible today. On the other hand, there was a rule that a girl's skirt had to reach her knees. But Gariette can wear anything she wants. As to perforations and tattoos . . . well, there's time to discuss it.

Although I just got back from Atlanta where I was talking to some mothers. One of them said that her 14-year-old son had pierced his own ears without getting permission, so what could she do?

I think the fighting depends more on the difference in age than the sexes. Yours are about the same distance apart as Diana and me, and Alice and Daniel, both pairs being examples of little birds in their nests agreeing.

Congratulations, Jen! That's wonderful news and how perfect, 1 boy and 1 girl. You're going to have so much fun with your little girl, dressing her up, showing her how to bake cookies and how to knit, the fun list goes on......

Congrats Jen! I am so happy for you. A little sister for Elliot to look after. Does that mean that you can have a girly babyshower?

How wonderful to hear that our new family addition is going to be a girl. Can't wait to buy frilly little lacey things for her. Also, it will be so nice for Elliot to have a baby sister to love and cherish. How exciting for him to be the 'big brother'.

In France, having a boy and a girl is called "le choix du roi." It means that the royal family has a boy to be king and a girl to marry to another king, so either way they have a line of succession.

oh, that's so awesome! congrats!!!

It is just amazing how far in advance they can tell the sex of the baby. Congratulations to the whole family! I wish only the best always to both children.

Very cool Jen!
But warn Gary, his life will never be the same (little girls tend to have daddy wrapped around their pinky....).
Love,
Kathryn

Well, my father used to beat us with a slide rule, until he got an abacus, which hurt even more.
