Cute!!! This reminds me of when I was a little kid, and my parents took me & my sisters to a Christmas party at a lodge in Connecticut that my father was affiliated with. Santa was giving gifts to kids. My sister Marilyn must have been only a year and a half; we were dressed to the nines in Christmas finery. I took my gift without any qualms, I was probably four years old. When it was my sister Marilyn's turn to approach Santa, in my mother's arms, she fixed him with a dubious stare with her huge blue eyes, the corners of her mouth slowly turning down, her mouth opened wide into a big wail, but she took the gift from Santa anyway...we have it on an old film.

Posted by: Emily at December 24, 2006 08:36 AMThe kid's got the right idea, knows a phony when he sees one. Merry Christmas to him, I say, but hold the presents until he cools off. And to all of you, from a very California-like winter in Rochester -- it is 45 degrees and sunny -- and from the only Raimi in Rochester, Merry Christmas and love. R
Posted by: Raimi at December 24, 2006 09:11 AMGreat photo. I had to unplug the laptop and carry it in to show John and Dan, who are working in the shop. They loved it too. Merry Xmas to all of you.
Posted by: Diana at December 24, 2006 09:26 AMReminds me of Sedaris's elf story: "If you don't get up on that man's lap and smile right now, Rachel, I'll give you something to cry about!"
Elliot is quite right. I refuse to sit on strange men's laps myself, and I don't go for fatsos. I'm not even that fond of beards, especially the long unkempt kind. Altogether, I do not find Santa Claus an attractive man, and I'm not surprised Elliot has the discernment to feel the same way.
Posted by: Jessica at December 24, 2006 11:03 AMMerry Christmas Jen, Gary & Elliot!
Love the picture. It proves that Elliot has not yet gone 'commercial' and fallen for all that holiday hype. But wait until next year when he finds out what Santa is really all about and he associates toys and other goodies with him. I'm sure then that you can coax a smile out of him when he visits Santa.
Love to all of you from
Aunt Mari & Liz
Why did you take him to see Santa, anyway? Why fill his mind with falsehoods? I hope you just did it for the picture and not because you think it's cute to have children believe in Santa Claus. Might as well have him believe in phlogiston.
It is a heck of a cute picture, though. (And I don't think I've ever used the word "heck" before.)
Posted by: Jessica at December 24, 2006 12:52 PMwell I know one thing my grandson is cute but he sure don't like santa claus i love you all. happy new year be sure and let us know after the ultrasound.
Posted by: spevie at December 26, 2006 06:16 AMAs I've told a few of you, we didn't actually take Elliot to see Santa. The daycare's next door neighbor dresses up as Santa every year and visits the neighborhood kids. He came to the daycare party last week and handed out presents to all the kids. Elliot was happy to get a present, and was even willing to give Santa a high-five. But sitting on his lap was just too much.
Posted by: Jen at December 26, 2006 04:48 PMOK - this is just about the best Santa picture I've seen. Hilarious!!!
Feliz Navidad!!!
Posted by: Rosaura at December 26, 2006 07:21 PMAnd Santa's still smiling, he's earned his hat!
